cheers

a friend asked me to make beer themed cookies for her 30th birthday party that she was having at a bar.  since st. patrick's day was 5 months away, i couldn't find a beer mug cookie cutter anywhere for less than $24.95 (seriously amazon.com?).  so, i had to improvise.  i was able to find a watering can (again, seriously?) and with a little crafting was able to create the perfect sized beer mugs.

i was pressed for time since i had a lot going on that week so i wasn't able to decorate the bottles with labels like i initially intended.  so when in doubt, a little sparkle always gets the job done.

these would make an awesome favor for any adult birthday party or beer themed event.

a very metal birthday

black guitar cookies and flying v cake i made for a friend's 30th birthday party.
the theme of the party was all black for this heavy metal fan.  the only downside to all black cookies was walking around with a blue tongue all night, although i would say it was definitely worth it.

some semi-professional photos my husband took for me. (by semi-professional i mean taken on an iPhone 5, none the less they look better than my amateur photos taken on my iPhone 4)

in keeping with the all black theme, the cookies were finished in black cellophane bags tied with black ribbon.

i am not a big fan of fondant, working with it or eating it.  so this cake was made solely out of buttercream.  except for the strings and tuning pegs which are black licorice.  i don't normally make themed cakes, but i am pretty proud of the way this one came out.  the colors match the actual guitar pretty well and the shape is on point.  the pictures do not do it justice.  a lot of work, this cake took about 8+ hours to bake, shape, and decorate.
